We’re so thankful you’ve been led to our website and hope you find it helpful and inviting.
St. Edmund’s is a fellowship of believers worshiping in the Historic Third Ward and ministering to the surrounding neighborhoods, downtown, and nearby college campuses. We are a traditional Anglican congregation, rooted in the Historic Anglican Tradition and fully engaged in the life of Milwaukee.
Our parish seeks to be a visible and active presence in the community—building relationships, serving those in need, fostering fellowship, and sharing in the life of our city. We want our neighbors to know that we are here for them and desire to walk alongside them in faith and friendship.
Together, we worship in continuity with 2,000 years of Christian tradition, upholding the foundational creeds of the Western Church (Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian), the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, and the Book of Common Prayer.
We invite you to join us on this journey of faith. Sunday Eucharist is celebrated at 10:00 a.m., and we offer ongoing small groups and community events throughout the week.
This is for a few reasons . . .
The first is following Hebrews 12:1, where Paul encourages us to remember the history and cloud of witnesses that surround us:
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us"
St. Edmund, known as St. Edmund the Martyr, is the original Patron Saint of England before Richard I replaced him with St. George while on crusade. He was King of East Anglia in what is now England and the United Kingdom. He chose to be martyred by the Vikings in 869 as he would not give up his Christian faith and become their puppet king.
The second, is that it is the historic name of the church that many in our fellowship belonged to that has a history that dates back to 1874 here in Milwaukee when St. Edmunds started a few miles North of us in what is now the Riverwest area.
O Jesu, King of martyrs, who for our sins didst die;
Hear Thou the praise we offer Before Thy throne on high;
For Thou art our Redeemer, the Crown of all They saints,
The Light that never fadeth, the Strength that never faints.
For all the might and courage, for all the grace divine
Shown forth in blessed Edmund who gave his life for Thine;
Our love and thanks we render on this his festal day;
O Savior ever-glorious, accept our grateful lay.
He bravely bore the tortures inflicted by his foes,
And o'er them all in triumph his patient spirit rose;
He left an earthly kingdom a heavenly crown to gain,
With Thee, the King of Glory, for evermore to reign.
In that celestial country where joys eternal flow,
His spirit resteth ever secure from every foe;
Now may he pray, dear Saviour, that we may faithful be
And after this life's conflict receive a crown from Thee.
To Thee, O mighty Monarch, be ceaseless songs addressed,
Who reignest with the Father and with the Spirit blest;
Grant us with Thy redeemed ones upon the eternal shore,
To yield Thee highest homage and praise for evermore.
